# Scholars Email Accounts 2026

At iMerit, we use two types of email addresses to communicate with Scholars: **personal emails** and **Scholar emails**. Here’s how the system works for everyone.

### Personal Email (Always Active)

* This is the email you registered in Worksuite (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook).
* We use this for **all non-project communication**, such as:
  * Onboarding and training invitations
  * Assessments and profile updates
  * HR and Workforce Management notices
* If you are **not currently on a project**, this is the email we will contact you through.

### Scholar Email (Active Only During Projects)

When you are assigned to a project, you will be given an **iMerit Google Account - your Scholar email.**

Each Scholar has two connected project email addresses:

1. **Primary account (login address):**
   * This is the account you will use to log in to Gmail, Drive, Chat, and client tools during the project.
2. **Alias account (forwards to your primary):**
   * This is a simpler version of your address that forwards to your primary account.
   * Both the primary and alias accounts are activated at the start of your project and deactivated when your project ends.

### What Happens Between Projects?

* Once your project ends, your iMerit Google Account (both primary and alias) will be deactivated.
* You will continue to receive all general updates via your **personal email**.

### **FAQs**

**Q: What types of email accounts does iMerit use for Scholars?**\
A: Every Scholar has a **personal email** (the one registered in Worksuite) and may be issued a **Scholar email** while working on a client project.

**Q: When is my personal email used?**\
A: Your personal email is used for all communication outside of projects — onboarding, assessments, HR updates, training invitations, and general notices.

**Q: When is my iMerit Scholar email used?**\
A: Your Scholar email is used only during projects for client communication, confidential files, and tool access.

**Q: What happens to my Scholar email when my project ends?**\
A: It is deactivated once your project is complete. You will continue to receive communication via your personal email. If you are assigned to a new project, you will be issued a new iMerit project email.

**Q: Will I always get the same Scholar email when I rejoin a project?**\
A: Not always. Some client projects require a different email format.

**Q: Can I choose the email address?**\
A: Sorry, the email address is not configurable.

**Q: What about “named Scholars” who have firstname.lastname accounts?**\
A: If your client requires a named account, you will keep your `firstname.lastname@imerit.net` address for as long as you are on that project. When the project ends, that account will be deactivated.

**Q: Will I lose my profile or past work history if my iMerit account is deactivated?**\
A: No. Your Scholar profile and history remain in Worksuite. Only the email account itself is closed.

**Q: How will I know when I get a new iMerit project email?**\
A: You’ll be notified at your personal email address when a new project email account is created for you.

**Q: Why is iMerit making this change?**\
A: By only issuing project accounts when needed, we keep systems efficient and secure, while ensuring Scholars always have a reliable way to be contacted through personal email.
